STATE OF CULTURAL HERITAGE IN VIRGINIA
A full-day convening connecting Richmond and Hampton — grounded in the CHEWS framework and anchored by the legacy of Appomattox — bringing together heritage leaders, tourism professionals, educators, community organizations, and the public to chart the future of African American cultural heritage in Virginia. Held at the Lost Office Collaborative in Henrico, Virginia, with a satellite hub in Hampton via livestream, the The State of Cultural Heritage in Virginia: Surrender & Jubilation Symposium takes place Friday, April 24, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET as part of Virginia’s 250th Anniversary celebration.
This event is meant to connect heritage institutions, HBCUs, destination marketing organizations, Black-owned businesses, and community leaders around a single mission: turning Virginia’s African American cultural legacy into lasting economic opportunity.
This is a working day — not just inspiration, but partnership formation, MOU conversations, and a clear path to joining the African American Heritage Tourism Network.
